70 polling stations that had ballot printer issues on election Day

PHOENIX — ABC15 has obtained a list of 70 polling places that had issues printing ballots on Election Day in Maricopa County.

These locations are scattered throughout the Valley and in some areas beyond the Valley.

The issues were with the Ballot on Demand printers and not the tabulation machines.

You can see the complete list of locations on the interactive map below.

A spokesperson for the elections department stated that the problem was with the printer fuser and not the ink or the toner.

ABC15 received an email from election officials stating that “The printers have three profiles. One for the ballot, one to receive the receipt and one for envelope.” The ballot “media weight” setting was set to heavy, as recommended, and the receipt and envelope was not.”

Officials from Maricopa County have repeatedly stated that they had a backup plan in place for situations like this. This includes the ability to place ballots at what is called ‘Door 3″ inside the voting location.

According to election officials, 17,000 ballots were submitted into what’s called Door 3. Some of these ballots had printer issues. We have also learned that some of the ballots in Door 3′ were incorrectly filled in because voters used the wrong pen or used checkmarks for candidates to fill in the ovals.
