It can be useful to have a printed copy of important documents, receipts, or tickets. Wireless printers come in many varieties, from those that are specialized to those that can handle simple printing tasks. Even better, these devices let you print with just your smartphone.

We love all-in-one printers with wireless capabilities that allow you to print, copy, scan, and fax using one device. Canon Maxify GX2020 was one of our favorites. It’s a multi-function inkjet printer which uses ink tanks instead of expensive cartridges. One set of full tanks will last an average user for up to two years. If that doesn’t convince you to click “add cart”, here’s a thought: refilling four tanks costs under $50.

Here are some of the best wireless printers compatible with Windows PCs and Macs as well as smartphones and tablets. If you are an Apple user, choose a printer that supports AirPrint. Windows, ChromeOS and Android users should choose a wireless printer that supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Monochrome printers offer sharp output, and they print quickly. The disadvantage is that these printers cannot produce any color content.

This Brother MFCL2750DW laser monochrome printer is affordable. It also has all of the features that you’d expect from this type printer, such as two-sided printing, a fast print speed and photocopying, a high yield cartridge (that is affordable to change) and a document feeder with 50 sheets. Wireless printing is also available, as well as a 2.7″ color touchscreen (from where you can control the printer’s functions).

Each Brother Genuine toner cartridge TN770 ($121 on Amazon), will produce up to 4,500 printed pages. There are “compatible” toners that cost less.

Pros:

  • The print speed of this printer is up to 36ppm.
  • The resolution of the scanner can be up to 19,200 by 1,299 dpi.
  • The printer includes a toner with a yield of 700 pages.

Printer Type: Inkjet | Key Functions: Print, Copy, and Scan | Color: YesPrint Speed:  | Paper Tray Capacity: 100-sheets | Print Speed: Up to 9.9ppm(black), 5.7ppm (color) | Print Resolution600 x 600 (black), upto 4,800 x 1.200 (color)

Canon Pixma MG3620 is a no-frills all-in-one inkjet printer that costs less than $60. This printer is not the latest inkjet printers available. It uses traditional ink and therefore has a higher operating cost than printers with ink tanks.

This printer is most suitable for someone with a minimal printing requirement due to its relatively slow print speed. The printer is equipped with automatic two-sided printing and a high resolution print (4,800 x 1200 dpi). The flatbed scan offers a resolution 2,400 x1,200 dpi.

Canon Pixma MG3620 comes in white or red if you don’t want a printer with a black solid housing. To function, the MG3620 relies on two traditional ink cartridges –- a pigment-based black and a dye-based tri-color cartridge. Amazon sells the Canon 240XL Black cartridge (300 pages) for $24 or the Canon 241XL Tri-color Cartridge (400 pages) for $33.

Pros:

  • It is a printer that is affordable and perfect for someone who has minimal printing needs.
  • The color print resolution can reach 4,800 x 1200 dpi. This is a high level for a printer of this price.
  • Canon Pixma MG3620 Wireless Printing.

The best wireless color laser printers for the home: HP Color LaserJet Pro M283fdw

hp-color-laserjet-pro-m255dw.jpg

HP

Printer Type: Color laser | Key Functions: Print, Copy, Fax, Scan | Color: YesPrint Speed: | Paper Tray Capacity: 250-sheets (main), 100-sheets (rear) | Print Speed: Up to 22 ppm | Print Resolution: 600 x600 dpi

Despite the fact that the cost of full color laser printers have dropped in recent times, they are still expensive to maintain. Color laser printers need multiple toners, which are expensive. A color laser printer can produce sharp, full-color documents, charts, and graphics. However, it is not suitable to print digital images.

The M283fdw can print at 22ppm. It also supports many different paper and media sizes. Using the HP Smart App, wireless printing is simple from a smartphone. It is also possible to handle wireless print without a special application from a Windows PC. The color touchscreen allows you to easily access and control all of the printer’s functions and features.

As an all in one printer, the M283fdw comes with a 50-sheet capacity automatic document feeder. The price of the four toners (black cyan yellow magenta) that are required is the main drawback. The HP 206X cartridge with a high yield (3150 pages) is priced at $105, while three HP 206X cartridges with a 2450 page yield are priced at $111 per cartridge. This printer is perfect for a home-office, but it’s too expensive for most households.

Pros:

  • The printer produces sharp, full-color text as well as basic charts and graphs.
  • Printing options include automatic two-sided printing and a nice selection of print speeds.
  • Printing wirelessly is easy with a touchscreen, mobile app or computer driver.

Cons:

  • Toner cartridges can be expensive.
  • The 600 x600 dpi print quality could be improved.

Best wireless home photo printerEpson EcoTank photo ET-8500

Epson

Printer Type Key Functions: Inkjet | Key Functions: Printer, Scanner, Photocopier | Color: YesPrint Speed: | Paper Tray Capacity: 100-sheets (main), 20-sheets (secondary), 50-sheets (rear) | Print Speed: Up to 16 ppm for black and 12 ppm for color | Print Resolution5760 x 1440 dpi

This wireless photo printer may be a bit pricey, but it produces professional-quality prints. While you can use the printer to create B&W documents, where this printer shines is when it generates full-color content, especially prints from digital images at up to 5,760 x 1,440 dpi resolution. The maximum print size is 13 by 19 inches. Wireless capabilities allow you to print documents and photos directly from your computer, smartphone or tablet.

The ET-8500 uses a full-color 4.2-inch touchscreen to make it easy to operate the printer and access its features and functions. This printer does not have an automatic document feeder (ADF), but it does have a flatbed scanner with a 4,800 dpi resolution that can be used to scan and photocopy.

This is a high end photo printer, which is perfect for a semi pro photographer who wants to produce high-quality prints using their digital photos. The printer can be used with a wide variety of photo paper and other media.

Pros:

  • Creates professional-quality prints from your photos.
  • Ink tanks can save you money over time compared to cartridges.
  • A full set of tanks can generate up to 6200 color pages.
  • Create a 4×6 inch photo print in under 15 seconds.
  • The printer uses Claria ET 6-color dye inks for photography to produce extremely detailed prints.

Cons:

  • The paper tray is not very large.

Define your printing requirements

You need to know your printing needs so you can find the printer that’s right for you. If you only need monochrome (B&W) prints and want speed, a laser printer is a great option. Inkjet printers that use pigment inks produce prints that are almost as good in quality as laser printers. They can also create photo prints.

There are also dedicated wireless photo printers for creating lab-quality prints from your digital images at home, and costly color laser printers – all of which offer wireless connectivity. Plan to spend between $60 and $400 on a full-color printer. Print speed, print quality and paper tray capacity are all factors that determine the price. When pricing a printer focus on both the cost of the printer and the cost of replacement cartridges.
