To the editor — I am so pleased for the Yakima Herald-Republic’s coverage of the irresponsible and unhealthy DTG landfill.

I was wondering if DTG, who lives in the Highlands, thought that their noise, late night activity and massive expansion would not be noticed.

Do government officials consider this a boon to Yakima’s business, rather than a potential health catastrophe? The dumping of unknown substances with fumes that literally sickened 55 workers at an orchard and some residents nearby was a boon for Yakima’s business.

Did a local official visit DTG before meeting with concerned neighbors? Is DTG concerned about the potential well water contamination and damage to nearby homes? Do they not care if their large loads are driven from the west along Summitview and 40th avenues, or up Naches Heights grades and driving a back road?

We are grateful to all those who have worked tirelessly over the years to bring this potential danger to our attention. Vote for candidates who are supportive of the health of our Valley at election time.
