It would be the most secure setting for your home Wi-Fi network to be set to private. This is incorrect. Don’t let the sloppy terminology fool you.

If you have your home network configured as private on your computer and your PC is not accessible by other devices connected to it, your PC will not be found by any other devices. In this instance, the public Wi Fi setting is. More secure The private one is better. Yes, that is correct!

Let me repeat it again, just to be clear:

  • Private network: This setting is only for networks that you have control over or trust. Your computer is visible to all other devices in the network if it is set to private. It can be used for file and printer sharing.
  • Public network This allows you to connect to public Wi-Fi networks, such at airports or hotels. Your PC will be hidden to other devices on the network.

Did you know that hackers can use your printer as a gateway to gain access to your printer? Here are five ways you can lock down your printer.

How to make your network private and public again

You can share files, print, or make devices discoverable between you by setting your network to private.

Follow these steps on your PC and you’ll be good to go:

  • Right-click Wi-Fi network icon The taskbar is located to the right.
  • Select Open Network & Internet Settings.
  • Select your Wi-Fi network to find out more Properties.
  • Select Network Profile.
  • Choose Private.

You can increase your security by going back to the Public option. Follow the steps above, and then select the “Select” option. Public Instead of Private.

This will only be applicable to your home network. For every network you connect to, you will be asked to choose Public, Private or Work. This selection is saved for the network profile.
