Sysco Receives First Battery Electric Freightliner (eCascadia)


HOUSTON PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 11, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Today, Sysco Corporation (NYSE: SYY), the leading global foodservice distribution company, received its first series-produced battery electric Freightliner eCascadia. Sysco and DTNA, a leading North American heavy-duty truck manufacturer, had announced plans to deploy 800 battery-electric Freightliner eCascadias in 2026. Sysco’s science based climate goal will be helped by Freightliner eCascadias, along with electric refrigerated vehicles.

The eCascadia prototypes have logged over 1.5 million miles in customer fleets since 2018, through pre-series production and real world testing. The eCascadia is a revolutionary vehicle that was unveiled in May 2022. Detroit ePowertrain is now available, along with new safety and connectivity features from Detroit Assurance or Detroit Connect.

Depending on configuration, the Freightliner eCascadia has a range of 155 to 220 miles and 230 miles. Therefore, the truck is ideally suited for short-haul routes that allow for depot-based charging like last mile logistics, local and regional distribution, drayage and warehouse-to-warehouse applications.

Fully integrated and developed in-house Detroit ePowertrain maximizes efficiency while ensuring driver comfort. Detroit Connect eServices provide customers with features such as the Charger Management System that predicts eRanges and monitors battery health. These features allow fleets to strategically save money while increasing their productivity. The eCascadia is standard with Detroit Assurance 5 with Active Brake Assist 5. It also debuts the new Detroit Assurance safety feature Active Side Guard Assist.
