Dubai To Build The World’s First 3D Mosque By 2025

Dubai officially announced the start of construction of the world’s first fully functional 3D Mosque (3D-printed mosque).

According to reports, the mosque will be built on 2,000 sq. meters of land in Bur Dubai. Construction will begin in October and the mosque is expected to be ready for 600 worshippers by early 2025.

According to The National News it takes around four months for the 3D printing of a building structure. The mosque building was completed with the appropriate facilities 12 months later.

Dubai’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) said three workers would operate a robotic 3D printer that will print two square meters per hour.

Ali Al Suwaidi (Director of the IACAD Engineering Department) explained that the printer would mix different materials and create a unique concrete mixture. The printing process involves layering liquid material along a predetermined route that is mapped by a computer. It’s similar to an inkjet printer.

Liquids containing mineral liquids will instantly solidify to concrete to transform digital models into three dimensional objects.

Al Suwaidi estimates that this 3D mosque will cost 30 percent more to build than regular mosques. This is despite it being the first of its kind anywhere in the world. He hopes that the 3Dmosque’s construction cost, which will last for around 30 years, will decrease.

IACAD is working with Dubai Municipality in order to obtain final approval for the mosque’s design. This mosque is the latest in the Dubai 3D Printing Strategy. It is a global initiative to harness technology and position Dubai as a leader in this field by 2030.

Hamad Al Shaiban Director General IACAD said that Dubai was a pioneer when it comes to 3D printing technology. This is an environmentally friendly technology that can reduce construction material scrap and carbon footprint.

In 2015, Dubai first embarked on an evolutionary step towards building the world’s first 3D-printed building by making a 3D-printed office outside Emirates Towers.

In 2018, Dubai constructed the largest three-story 3D printed building in Warsan. This became the Municipality Centre For Innovation of Dubai.

Vice President and Ruler Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, passed a law that regulates 3D printing in Dubai’s construction industry. The law aims to ensure that a quarter of the emirate’s buildings are built using the technology by 2023.
